How to play

  1. Tap a column to drop a disc; it falls to the lowest free space.
  2. Four of your discs in a row, across, up and down or diagonally, wins.
  3. If all 42 spaces fill up with no line of four, the game is a draw. Every new game switches who goes first.

The two computer levels

The easy bot takes a win when it sees one and usually blocks yours. The hard bot searches up to 40,000 positions before each move and plays for the centre and for threats on the right rows.

Four in a row in the browser: questions

Can I play four in a row with a friend on another phone?

This page plays on one screen: two players take turns on the same phone or computer. To play four in a row with a friend on their own phone, use the app: one of you opens a room and the other types the 4-letter code or taps the invite link.

Is it better to go first in four in a row?

Yes. On the standard 7 by 6 board the first player can always win with perfect play, starting in the middle column. That is why each new game here switches who goes first.

Do I need an account to play?

No. The page needs no account, sets no cookies and shows no ads. The game runs in your browser and nothing about your moves is sent anywhere.
