Play dots and boxes
Close a box to score it and go again. Against the computer or a friend on this screen.
- You 0 boxes
- Computer 0 boxes
Each new game switches who goes first.
Want a rematch on two phones? In the app you each play on your own phone.
How to play
- Tap between two dots that sit next to each other to draw a line.
- Draw the fourth side of a box and it is yours: it gets your mark and you draw again.
- When every line is drawn, the player with more boxes wins. Every new game switches who goes first.
The two computer levels
The easy bot grabs every box it can and sometimes hands you one. The hard bot counts the chains, gives away the fewest boxes it can, and knows when to leave the last two boxes of a chain for you so it gets the next one.
Dots and boxes in the browser: questions
Can I play dots and boxes with a friend on another phone?
This page plays on one screen: two players take turns on the same phone or computer. To play dots and boxes with a friend on their own phone, use the app: one of you opens a room and the other types the 4-letter code or taps the invite link.
What is the double cross in dots and boxes?
When your opponent opens a long chain, you take every box but the last two and then draw the line that leaves those two for them. They must take the pair and then open the next chain for you. The hard computer here plays this way.
Do I need an account to play?
No. The page needs no account, sets no cookies and shows no ads. The game runs in your browser and nothing about your moves is sent anywhere.
