Party game

How to play truth or dare

Truth or dare is a party game for 2 or more players. On your turn you choose truth, and answer a personal question honestly, or dare, and do a challenge the group sets or reads from a card. Then the turn passes on. There is no winner; the fun is in the answers.

How to play

You need: a list of questions and dares, or one phone.

  1. Sit in a circle and agree on house rules: what is off limits and how skipping works.
  2. The first player chooses truth or dare.
  3. Read the next truth question or dare. Answer honestly, or do the dare.
  4. Pass the turn to the left and keep going as long as the group is having fun.

Rules

  • Anyone may skip a card that feels wrong for the group, with no questions asked.
  • Truths must be answered honestly; a dare must be safe for everyone in the room.
  • Agree before you start whether you may pick dare twice in a row.
  • Nothing that hurts, embarrasses someone outside the room, or breaks things.

Variants

Truth only
A quieter version for getting to know people: questions only, no dares.
Couples
Two players and questions about each other. Kept sweet, not adult.
Spin to pick
Spin a pen or let the app pick who answers next instead of going around.

Tips to play better

  • Start mild. Bold cards land better once the group is warmed up.
  • Make skipping easy and normal. People answer more openly when they know they can pass.
  • Mix truths and dares so nobody sits out for long.
  • For mixed ages, stick to the mild cards.
